Personally, I believe that owning a electric car right now (if it fits your limited driving requirements) is the best time to have one. Gas prices are high and they haven’t started taxing their use yet. You get to drive by those gas stations and go nanner nanner 🖕. Someday… they’re going to be taxing every mile you drive that electron guzzler (you do know they can do that) and the libs with free collage degrees and no jobs will all of a sudden realize that they have to pay or President Newsom will have the new IRS shut their EV down and they’ll come to a stop on the Joe Biden expressway.

Good points Marc.

You guys are probably way ahead of this now, but I did reach out and discuss this proposal before CARB with some folks I know. As noted above in my previous comments one can still own and trade existing ICE vehicles after 2035 (and import them from outside the state it would seem - if you bought it new, out of state, even if it's just an hour "old" it is still not a new car when you hit the CA border). Also, 1/3 of sales even in 2035 can be hybrid ICE/Electric vehicles. By 2026 EV sales must make up 1/3 of CA vehicle sales (new cars). Just FYI, right now CA has 43% of all EVs in the US. For me, this actually seems pretty doable. Especially considering the seeming critical mass that EV has achieved in the last few years (see our discussions elsewhere on this forum). As CA by itself is 10% of all US vehicle sales, they've always had a large impact on things automobile.

I'm not sure about that yet. That’s 12 yrs out and only means no more new ICE. Not no ICE allowed. Current cars won‘t suddenly disappear. The average lifespan is probably 10 to 15 years minimum. So if you do the math millions of new ICE cars still being built into 2035 and with 15 years ahead of them that puts us right around 2050. I think infrastructure will get much better over those next 27 years. There will still be millions of ice vehicles on the road for the foreseeable future regardless.
I’m not really for or against electric yet, just trying to look at it objectively at the moment before I decide. Not that I have a choice though.
The government should be spending the tuition loan money on the infrastructure and create more jobs for all those unemployed college grads or otherwise who are working minimum wage jobs!

Dont forget this is a tiered ban
Something like 36% of new cars need to be EV by 2026
Then 70% or so by 2030.
Then the 100%

It can be done, but life if going to get real hard for a lot of folks in the next decade.

Buy your hot rods now. Hell, buy your trucks/suvs now too.

Oh yeah. I get it. But there will be people who need to replace an ICE vehicle that don’t want an EV and will have to go outside CA to get it or do without. At that point I think you’ll finally start to see the reality of these dumbass decisions sink in. Oh and I’m sure they’ll tax the gas to the moon to get everyone’s compliance. Sure you can keep and drive your ICE vehicle but gas is only $20 a gallon😳 Imagine filling up your pickup for only $600. Oh yeah🤔

Going to be interesting what the gubmint decides to do when it’s time to stop sales of ICE vehicles based on their imposed deadline and we’re not even close to being able to support all these EVs they expect to be on the roads. Get the popcorn 😂
and the toilet paper..gonna be a real :poop: show...

Come to think of it, the impact on the grid, for example, won't be nearly as big as it may sound. Same with the amount of charging stations needed.

Long before I fled, 12 years ago, I was already a minority in L.A. county, which isn't exactly a farming community.
For those who haven't enjoyed the L.A. life and may not know, the uninvited guest workers don't need no stinkin' car registration. Or drivers license, or insurance.

So right there, over 50% of the population doesn't have to abide by this EV mandate, taking a large load off the infrastructure requirements. Also, as their non-smogged vehicles wear out, they can simply go south of the border and "re-import" whatever stolen ones they want.

See, it won't be quite as bad as you thought.

So that's a long way off and several election cycles. A lot can change and voting matters now more than ever.

CARB approved it. Interested in seeing what happens. CA is also, evidently, feeling a little threatened. In San Francisco (a place I love, btw) and in LA bill boards have appeared urging folks not to move to Texas and using the Uvalde shooting as a reason. Make of that what you will.
