There are work-arounds.
Nope, still wouldn't work for me.

I could put their little spy gizmo in a vehicle I only drive on the property, but those aren't insured anyway.
The other alternative would be to put it in my Ram 3500 tow vehicle. It'd give me the best possible score, but not a good one.

I'd be fine with the acceleration and such (20K-plus lbs. just don't accelerate quickly) but all those 55 mph roads I do 80 on wouldn't look good in their eyes.
Besides, they may take issue with driving 1,400 miles straight, and other details like that.

It fits their needs, not yours. 😂

Also for me. I drive BIG trk OTR. My cars sit for weeks at a time. That's why it works for me.

Yeah, I could put it in the Pete I suppose. Usually only drive that one a couple of times per year. And not overly fast.

My problem is that while many of my vehicles also sit for weeks (and the Challenger for months now), when I do drive them the red flags would pop up like a fireworks display at the insurance company.
Maybe if the average speed was calculated per day, whether I drove or not, I'd have a fighting chance?

I"m using USAA and its beating me up... Afraid to switch though because I've always had awesome service from them.

I have comprehensive/collision, Under/Un 100/300 Bodily injury, 50k prop damage; 5K personal injury; 100K medical payments; 100/300/50 liablity on all 5 cars (2016 Charger HC; 2006 SC GTO; 2016 Expedition EL 4x4; 2016 Expedition EL 4x2; 2005 Ford Thunderbird. My wife and I, no teenagers. A ticket here and there (maybe 1 for her and 2 for me in the last 8 years, no accidents). Vehicle replacement assistance on all.

So, get ready to laugh: $6480 for a year. After something like $1500 in various discounts.

I know I'm over insured in many areas, I need to cut that stuff down.

Wow that is actually eye popping.

It's the enhanced coverage for medical payments and all that that does it. If I went with the Texas minimums it would be much lower - I guess I am risk averse. I ought to switch the GTO to just liability (and replacement - which at USAA is a payment of an additional 20% of cash value if totalled) because it never goes anywhere.

Another thing you can do in texas is not have any vehicle insurance at all. If you deposit $250,000 (last I looked) in a locked account dedicated to covering any auto damage, you can get an insurance waiver from the state. Unfortunately, I do not have a quarter million laying around like that.

If I had done that, somehow, in CA I would've saved a lot of money over the years.
They probably stopped offering that option, though.

If y'all want a good laugh, latest State Farm renewals had my Hellcat and Demon reduced ~$35 per 6 months with the reason given as reduced cost of repairs and payouts for the model. Meanwhile, my '04 Terminator went up $40, no reason given [but I think we can all make a decent guess]

Dropping the GTO to liability only and reducing to near or just a step above minimums on the comprehensive and medical, under insured/uninsured coverage, and going with auto deduction of payments would save probably 1500 - 1600 a year. May do that this evening.

I still find it amusing that the '18 Challenger costs me less than the '14 Ram 1500.

Yep. My brand new 2020 DSRT is cheaper than my 16' HellCat Charger. SF said it was about the safety features are better and improved.

That might warrant a phone call. 😂

Ins. Co: Did someone steal your cars or are you driving them like that on purpose? 😳

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: ... didn't notice that til ya mentioned it. '18 Demon with double the default/standard coverages, is a bit cheaper than my '04 Termi and '06 Ram both with the default coverage ... :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

For those that are posting about the Hellcats/Demons being cheaper than older cars to insure (myself included), don't forget that if you were to only insure one vehicle and not get the multi vehicle discount that the Hellcat may not come out cheaper. It can be deceiving because many of us add our Hellcats/Demons on to existing policies and are surprised at how cheap they are to insure. Wonder what it actually would be if it was the only vehicle on the policy.

HC's my daily driver, other 3 are add-ons to that policy, so I consider them on equal footing

It's been alluded, but not having teenagers in your residence is key too. I've had people pull up to my crib when I'm wiping the cars down and talk about these cars but can't afford the insurance. It's almost another car payment. That's gotta suck. 😳

Yeah, but these days we know what causes them, so it's fairly easy to avoid having any.
From what I understand, kids are quite costly no matter what, not only when shopping insurance.

Or you're gonna have to wait til you're an empty nester. 😂

I run into guys ALL the time. "I can afford the car, but the insurance would kill my budget". I ask some rather rudimentary lifestyle questions and they reveal that they have a 16yr son and 18yr old daughter. 😂
