Li-Cycle Holdings Corp. (NYSE:LICY) sank 48% during Monday trading after announcing that it is pausing construction work on its Rochester Hub project. The company said construction is pending until a comprehensive review of the go-forward strategy for the project is completed.
Li-Cycle (LICY) warned that it has recently experienced escalating construction costs, and expects the aggregate cost for the current scope of the project to exceed its previously disclosed guidance.
"In light of these developments, the Board of Directors has decided to pause construction work on the Rochester Hub, pending a review of the project, including an evaluation of the go-forward phasing of its scope and budget, including construction strategy. Li-Cycle continues to work closely with the U.S. Department of Energy with respect to the previously announced $375 million loan commitment through the Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing program for the project, in conjunction with the project review."

I'm waiting for the debacle of all the batteries and cost to dispose of them when they get the wave of batteries from older models in a few years as the numbers have grown in buyers in recent times. People today are holding on to their cars longer and some parts are scarce to do that. But when the avg. cost to replace batteries later hits electric car owners of today I think the % of electric vehicle owners who do a battery swap will drop like a rock when they see those prices. Causing used electric vehicles to be worth a whole lot less as well. Those who know how to work on them might be able to create a niche resell market when that time comes, maybe? And what about the materials to make the batteries? Anyone been following that? The light in the tunnel that you see is a train btw imho. Unless something major changes soon for this path.
