People do dumb things because they think they can without thinking how much it could put them in danger

We talk about bicycle riding. There is a road that is 55 mph in the country with no bike lane. I see bikers once in awhile riding and all I think is riding your bike must be more important then your life. They have right to be there but there is a good chance they will get hit. There was an incident last month and a car hit a pack of 5 of them not far from me

Agreed...also the concept of riding with traffic (vs against traffic) in this day and age of distracted driving...is nothing short of insanity...

Nope, too busy to engage in the topic (and it is a state law issue). And feel conflicted based on bad behavior described elsewhere toward motor cycles. Used to ride long ago, don't anymore.

I don't oppose laws on lane splitting/filtering for selfish reasons. Traffic around here sucks. Those who are commuting on bikes in order to save time lane splitting/filtering are saving me time by not being 4 wheel traffic. The more of them the less traffic for me. Well up until one of them smears themselves all over the 405 and creates a massive traffic situation.

It's like much of any behavior. It can be done in an intelligent, acceptable way, or it can be done in an asinine manner.

I used to lane split in L.A. traffic. Carefully, obviously.

It was bad enough when people would change lanes without looking, or using turn signals, but when some started opening the door, (just out of jealousy, I suppose), I gave up.

Still miss that WideGlide, but not riding it in CA.

I have (by mistake, of course) removed a few mirrors and radio antennae along the way.
