I'm actually not the worst on the block.

There's a guy down the street with an AC Cobra.

That thing is crazy loud...

I didn't realize they may use TEL. Yay we get to start another thread one day.
And with enough leaded fuel run through the engine you will get lead build up too

I think our track adapted e85 at a pretty strong rate because of Eric (Horsepower innovations). Dude is best around with a carb and e85
He was the 1st I knew that was using it. He won drag week small block N/A a long time ago

I try to start mine weekly, but haven't been on top of it lately... (even without considering E85)
I haven't started a car in storage in over 20 years. I park it and when it is time to get it out I start it

You guys realize that basically I burn a gallon on every lap at Road America and a couple for every three laps at BIR? I sure hope that racing gas is more near $10/gal than $20/gal! Because I have made my choice for my new engine.
Good Luck, I think your gonna find it closer to $20/gal.

Two schools here, either start on a schedule, or don't touch it.

If the later (especially if 20yrs), then pull plugs, trans oil in the cylinders, change eng. oil, pre-oil thru the distributor if possible with a drill motor, crank with starter.

Then plugs and fire it up.

Of course in Vermont where I grew up, an engine sitting that long is likely seized...

It’s a proven thing, 90% of engine wear occurs on cold start, the colder the start temp the worse the wear.

I have never had a car sit for 20 years. I mean every year I park my car for the winter I do not start it. Been doing that for over 20 years

Pretty much why I don't start my car in storage. When I 1st parked a car for the winter many years ago I used to put stable in the tank and start it once in awhile and went by what I found you should do. I put a new engine in the my car in the spring of '97 and it wouldn't start. Had to replace the starter but still nothing. I drained the oil and gas came out. The regulator went and the vacuum hose to the intake filled the engine with gas. There was stable in the tank. Not sure if that was the issue but never used it again. I also don't fill my tank I do the opposite, park it with little gas in it. The gas is going to loose octane sitting that long so now you have a full tank of junk gas and with the track opening when I get my car out that is no good. This is a whole topic like what oil is best and I think both come down to doing what is right for you

But you only need a couple gallons mixed in with 93. Considering tires and brakes on a road course car I'd think the race gas add in a minor thing?

Oh how nice. So glad I hang out here. This is not drag racing for ten seconds a pop. Sure, say another $40 (two gallons). Say I have five sessions. 5x40=$200 more. On top of say 12 gallons at $5 now = $60; makes each fill-up $100. So I’ll budget $500 for gas. Round numbers.

I already budget $400 a weekend for pads, say $600 for tires (last four days), $400 entry fees, oh and maybe pay Haggerty $500 EACH DAY to insure it, or just take that risk myself. At RA I rent a garage for another $200/day, weekend is $400. Does not include the budget for replacement rotors about every two years, if your lucky. Brake fluid bleeds (my racing fluid is just under $100/bottle), my time for changing all the equipment from street-track-street. How about hotel, transportation costs at 12 mpg to tow, meals? My trailer costs $1,200/yr to store. I could and should just sell it now.

Thanks, Speedy! I may never need to use my Hellcat on the course again!! That broke the proverbial camels back. I know a few years ago, I could rent a Ford Spec racer for about $1,500 each day, all in, delivered to the track, maintained, insured, fueled etc. Since I have a SCCA racing license certification, I’ll just literally race with that now! Drive the RE to the track and just enjoy it, and never jeopardize it mechanically again. Wow what a concept. I am not being sarcastic.

Yep, been there done that my friend. I started getting in to racing my CBR1000RR at the track. Did a track day at Barber Motor Sports Park and after burning the edges off a set of tires in one day ($600), travel, hotel, food, seeing several throw their bikes down the track in front of me, I decided that one track day was enough for me LOL. Drag racing is cheap by comparison.

I didn’t read through all 13 pages of this thread but, are guys adding anything for daily driving with access to only 91 octane?

I don’t race but every once in a while open it up getting on the interstate or on a backroad, hadn’t thought about the fuel. Any concerns there?

Hey @Speedy! I met a guy with a redeye this summer who only runs 87. He said the car has knock sensors it figured it out. This is no lie.
