Purolator and Wix are owned by Mann+Hummel. Their QC has been pretty bad lately. The OCD oil filter nerds that cut and post pics on BITOG are saying the best built filters these days are MicroGard Select, NAPA Gold and Mobil 1. Mobil 1 were being made by M+H and Exxon Mobil fired them.
Yea, the oil filter market is a jungle the last couple years for sure - with the collapse of Fram, and mergers and acquisitions of others that had provided stable, quality product for a long time, etc. I am happy in hindsight that I pulled the trigger a few years ago and "invested" in multiple cases of Mopar 899s and 041s at decent prices in the early stages of the bio-terror attack in 2020 before it hit the supply chain in a big way - basically a lifetime supply. I had not bought filters of any kind since then until recently for a DZ302 SBC I am building for a '69 Z28 resto - just to survey things, I bought two each, 1 long and 1 short of the premium white K&N, and Wix from Summit...both K&N were made in Vietnam, and both Wix Made in USA at the Carolina plant. Needless to say the K&N got returned, and I was disappointed enough I wrote to them , and to their credit, did not hide the fact, but offered a BS song and dance about quality has not been affected by the action yada yada - I called BS.
Also know that even with Wix, only certain P/N appear to be made at the Carolina plant, others could be from elsewhere since the Mann+Hummel merger, as evidenced by another brother recently bought a common Wix for his LS, and....Made in Mexico.
