Just bought one (2020) 2 days ago... traded my 2015.

First off, my 2015 had 865 and 3.42 gears. Pulled all of my loads great. Including my 18,000 lb RV.
‘The new 2020 has 1000 ft/lb and 4.10 gears. Can’t wait to get a few miles on it so I can see how it compares.

Owning a 2019 the extra 75 ft-lbs doesn't make me want to switch. However I am hoping they eventually get the new cab design moved over to the HD's. Also would like to see them catch up some in HP, but I know that's harder to do with the Cummins design.
My 2020 has the new cab design

your HD? The 2021 still uses the old cab so that would confuse me
Ok. Then maybe I don’t know what the new design is. Is it something that’s not out yet?

what’s it like? Or what is it? I’m genuinely curious now.

Yes.. it is fake news.

47RH - sucks - over drive solenoid sticks
47RE - HUGE improvement; see the light at the end of the tunnel
48RE - pretty much bullet proof for those who do not modify their engines
68RFE - much the same
AISIN - commercial grade trans made by the largest gear box maker in the world.... nuff said

Why is FCA ditching Aisin? Looks like either ZF or Allison will be the choice.

the 1500's got a whole new cab design in 2019 or 2018 I think. All of the 2500 and 3500's got a facelift (new grill, headlights etc) and new tailgate, but the cab and box are still the old style (from like 2010 on). The new cab is a little bigger, and accommodates things like panoramic roof.

Basically all of us HD owners are getting shorted until like 2024 lol
OK... it’s the facelift on the HD i was confusing with the remodel. My bad.

Wish they would do something with the bland styling. Completely boring to look at. Even the TRX is a letdown in the looks dept. to me. Shame.

You'll be able to use 6th gear without having to go 120 mph, and it'll vibrate you a lot less when going slowly through towns and such since it won't be lugging the engine.
You'll like it.

Not allowed to say.
Wow I am surprised the Aisin wasn’t a great trans being it was a expensive upgrade over the regular trans. What was the common issue?

Many seem to think that it feels and shifts like a pickup transmission...when going to the bank and the ice cream parlor.
They want a 3/4 or 1-ton to ride like a Cadillac even when empty, and "shift" like a CVT, too.

Yeah, but smooth doesn't really equate to durable when it comes to transmissions.

It's been a long time since I didn't tow something with my Aisin equipped 3500 so I really don't remember what it felt like without a trailer ( at only 9,350 lbs.), but I don't recall it shifting badly.

Actually, the only time it acted up a bit was when going up a very steep road with very sharp switchbacks, pulling about 15K. Then it got a bit confused by the constant speed-up-slow-down routine.
Nothing that shifting manually couldn't cure.

A 68Rfe is bullet proof? Hahahaha ok... 48RE bullet proof? Lol ok 2 times. We build these all week long that have failed in trucks with stock power.

Well of course you "see them" if you build them. And no one said they NEVER have problems. All makes and models of every piece of equipment on earth has problems. It's about frequency and circumstances.

No one drives by and decides to stop in and tell you how awesome their's is working. They only come in when they're having a problem they'd like you to help solve.

Same with the internet... People only post when there's a problem. No one posts to say, "man, my drive to work went perfect. Nothing broke."

Ok... i'm done. Have fun.

As far as I know there are no issues with the Aisin, and it is a good transmission. Some people who buy 1 ton trucks to cruise the streets and not actually work them think they shift harsh. I am guessing they have never driven a vehicle with a shift kit in it before
My 2015 (that i traded) had 40,900 miles on it. About 85% of those are towing. I would have an exact figure, but I accidentally cleared the towing stats it collects.
