I was fortunate enough to see the 'real' Cannonball Run (1972 Dodge Challenger) and spend some time chatting with Brock Yates in person a number of years ago when attending the Syracuse Nationals.

This was only a few years before he passed, and you could tell the Alzheimer's was already affecting him.

But chat about something that happened 30 years in the past? He remembered it like it was yesterday...

Agree. Used to be one of the first columns I read every month when it showed up in the mailbox. Kind of surreal actually meeting him and chatting for almost a half an hour. He seemed to light up talking about 'those days', and his son actually thanked ME for taking the time to chat.

C/D had a few more good writers after Yates left. They were honest and not bought off. When they left it was all over. A couple of months ago the editor or one of the writers started blasting Trump. WTF! This is an automotive rag and your fricken politics should stay out of it. I cancelled.
