I was changing the oil on my 2016 Challenger Hellcat and noticed this threaded stud on the front of my starter and where a heat shield was over the stud. Does anyone know if a nut belongs on this stud? I would think it should as the shroud rattled when I move it. If anyone has access to theirs can you please check it and maybe get a picture. I would like to see what style belongs. Also a guess on the size? I’m betting it got missed on the assembly as my car has less than 8,000 miles. Thank you.

Typically, a starter nut is just your basic hex nut. No nyloc, no flange. But for a Cat, I can't say for sure.

Just looking at pic, I would say it is a 10MM 1.5Thread pitch for the nut...not positive, just going by pic.

I vaguely recall mine looking the same way.

But no picture at the moment.

Even if they didn’t use one I think it’s a good idea. It’s the source of a rattle

I am guessing the nut would have a flange on it go hold the shroud in place. I couldn’t see a mark where one was though.

The reason I took that picture was there was a maintenance alert that went out (didn't rise to the level of a recall) for the mounting bolts torque on the starter.

I remembered thinking the same thing as you about a missing bolt or not.

My 2017 was missing also. I put one on it. Like you said it rattled when you bumped it.

Mine was missing as well on my 2016, it’s a standard metric nut. M8 I believe it was

It appears Dodge saved some money by nut putting a nut on that item. LOL

That's a good catch.

And I see Kenny G assembled your motor.

Also, might that only by used for alignment somehow during assembly? I don't see FCA dumping the nut for weight savings on these porkers, or the workers screwing up on every car (though it is Dodge).

Ya good catch, I was wondering if anyone would catch that. I was thinking more Kelvin Gonzalez. Would be interesting to keep a running list and see how many different initials are on people’s engines. I can’t see one on Bull’s because the angle of the picture.

Just noticed that same thing on my Redeye last week. Timing of this thread is kind of a coincidence. Starter heat shield rattling. Bought a plastic insert nut, a rubber washer and metal washer and snugged them on. Takes an M5 metric nut
