If I had two 2016 Hellcat computers and swapped them will the car run? If not why? I have read you need to send your computer in to get the VIN changed, why?
Coming from mustangs where we used to swap computers all the time I don't get. These were also OBD 1 computers

It needs the vin and the skim information. The skim is the security Information and all the ecu's have to have the same skim info .

So if I sent a computer out to get it unlocked and gave them the VIN how would they know the skim information? I bought an unlocked computer for my Daytona and all they needed was the VIN. So I do know, that computer and the stock computer both had the same VIN

Compared to what? I have an older 8.1 and want to upgrade it for car tuning. That is why I bought it new in the 1st place and used it on my '13 Mustang

When you get an unlocked PCM back from HP Tuners or Diablo you need the VIN encoded as some BCM modules do a check of the VIN and if not correct they will not communicate with the device, the vin is broadcast by the PCM and this information is checked listened to by other modules. I checked the stock reads from my 2015 ScatPack and 2015 Hellcat before I put an unlocked PCM in the car and in the Security section SKIM was disabled but capable from the factory.
