It was a marketing tool to sell more cars. How much did sales increase from the generated publicity?

And they didn't build the original to satisfy the green agenda. They built it to race.

The race cars were fast, real fast. Fast enough to get banned. The street cars were ponderous, but necessary. I wonder if sales were affected. Good question.

I will say the Ford Talladega was very slippery in the air. Even without a radical wing and nose cone. It was more akin to a conventional road car. But full on race version on the track the Daytona slaughtered the competitors. Like to the tune of 76% races it entered it won. Thank Bill France, the head of Stock Car Racing who built and owned the Daytona track. The cry baby who loved Chevy and Furd more, bitched and whined and saw to it the Daytona went from 426 cubes down to just over 300. Very similar to banning the 426 Hemi after a supreme ass kicking in 1964 Daytona 500. Heck if ya can’t beat em then Just ban em. Again thanks Bill nice going.

It would have been interesting to see who would have won, If the 427 ford dual cam, and the Chrysler A-925 AKA “Doomsday Hemi” with dual overhead cam and 4 valve pentroof style engines were fully developed. Ford had the deeper pockets for many rounds of battle, but Ma Mopar did very well with a much smaller budget as we know from history. It would have been interesting. Thank Bill again for putting the squash on that one too. Maybe just Maybe he was right on that one given that tire technology and crash safety features weren’t developed yet and the cars speeds were faster than the technology. The cars were stupid fast for the time.

Ford built a few King Cobra Spoilers, but AFAIK never raced them.
