Demon 170 VONS and VINS now coming out...

I went for a ride yesterday
Snuck a picture under the fence in the pouring rain
Yes the cars are getting wet
Hard to see but there are 6 170 s in this picture that I seen quickly
Many more mixed in with the several rows of vehicles
The fence took out the white 1 that was the closest
The green 1 in the back really pops

Not sure what the sticker on the wheel is for. On tires a yellow dot identifies the lightest spot and should be placed over the valve stem. The red dot identifies the shortest diameter of the tire and is supposed to supersede a yellow dot when balancing. Whatever’s going on it doesn’t look like they got it right 😂

That is the case for most tires, but not Mickey Thompson drag tires. I found this out a couple of weeks ago when I had an issue balancing one of my ET Street R tires, I ended up having a defective tire. The dots on Mickey Thompson tires are inspection dots used when the tires come out of the mold.

Interesting. My thought is why in the world would M/T decide to use what is universally understood to be a balancing dot (yellow) when it has nothing to do with that. A inspection dot could be any other color and would serve that purpose without being confused with a balancing indicator. If that is in fact true…. It’s stupid. I just mounted two Radial Pros this week and will be taking them to get balanced tomorrow. They both had yellow dots. We’ll see how they do.

Best bet is to get wheels balanced themselves (no tires) and then put in balancing beads

I would not be surprised if they purposely mis-stickered them and are holding them for ransom. Allocation at msrp or no one gets their Demon! Or the UAW is in on it as a bargaining chip.

Well 😵‍💫. They could have picked any color in the rainbow but somebody there decided to go with the color that means something else on every other tire in the world. No wonder balancing their tires is a crapshoot. 🤨

I know some people who have mid November ship dates to a dealer. Some with and without carbon wheels. I'm tracking a Demon 170 for a buddy and the dealer is "allegedly" saying the car should start shipping within the next 2 weeks. But we'll see if it gets pushed back. It has to be either parts or emissions holding these cars up. The same thing happened to the TRX in 2020 when it failed emissions certification and had to get its exhaust system redesigned. The next year the Grand Wagoneer and TRX's both were held up because Uconnect 5 had glitches and the taillights and other tech wasn't functioning.
