TIPS ON PUMPING GAS THAT WILL SAVE YOU $$$
“I don't know what you guys are paying for gasoline.... but here in California we are paying up to $5.75 to $7 per gallon. My line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money's worth for every gallon:
Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA we deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline.. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and premium grades. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons.
Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role.
A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.
When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. You should be pumping on low mode, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money.
One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF FULL. The reason for this is the more gas you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so that every gallon is actually the exact amount.
Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up; most likely the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.
Note: If the pump repeatedly shuts off early, it could be a sign of a problem with the vapor recovery system, such as a clogged carbon canister.”

The Best Trick yet when going to fill up your car😎

Step one before leaving your house grab your Ascot being its like wearing a mask but bettter facial coverings.

Step Two do not drink and or eat anything being you are a little lighter and may need not to go to the bathroom for awhile.

Step Three do not remote start your car and let it idle.

Step Four leave extremely early to fill up your car like say 2-3 un the morning.

Step Five stay positive and do not get violent thinking how an Ass Hat in office is stealing your money.

Step Six if the weather is rainy this is actually better environment as well.

Step Seven be sure to leave your Cell Phone at home😎

Step Eight one block from the station pull over and remove your vehicle license plates.

Step Nine pull into the station and be closest to the C-Store.

Step Ten tell the cashier to give you all his money then tell him to activate pump 10 to fill up your car.

Step Eleven do not look panicked and have the cashier fill up your car and when done give back the Cashier all the money back less the money he gave you to fill up the car. And ask him to check the air pressures. Check oil level and clean the windshield all while held at gun point.

Step Twelve drive off feeling really good you filled up your car for FREE.

I've seen this one before, but still don't understand it. If their tanks were above ground, and especially if exposed to the sun, it would make some sense, but...

Since ground temps remain constant at as little as 12 feet down, I doubt that the difference in volume is even measurable between the coolest and warmest parts of the day.

To me, this is like thinking that a car gets a better 1/4-mile time with unleaded gas, because it's lighter without the lead.

some of those go way back. There should not be that much dirt in there and it should also be filtered not to get to your car

Yeah, the early vapor recovery nozzles, for example.

When filling the auxiliary tank on my GMC, those nozzles always resulted in a few gallons ending up on the ground instead of in the tank.

To save gas when driving, Don't Use Your Brakes, coast as much as is feasible.

Get an electric bike.

Vote politicians that understand how Energy is produced.

I agree & thought this was debunked decades ago ? There is some amount of the gas subject to temp expansion in the pumps & piping close to the surface, but doubt it could make any significant difference.

And the nonsense about the vapors is an old Cali 'green BS' line - seriously how much could you be 'losing' to vaporization filling up the average car/truck :ROFLMAO:
I'd be shocked if it was even enough to 1/4 fill a thimble !

IDK
But I like to Read the Mile Per Gallon while driving my Ram. I do a lot of coasting down hill and smile when I see 100 miles per gallon.:ROFLMAO:

Fill it up today because it’s going to be more per gallon tomorrow.

Exactly. That's why I don't understand people who only put some gas in, instead of filling up..."Because it's so expensive."

Well, stopping more often and then getting even more expensive gas won't help any.

I find that Weds, and Thurs are the better days. I've watched how they raise the price for the weekend.
